Before you give Children’s Panadol (5-12 years) to your child:

a. Do not give Children’s Panadol (5-12 years) to your child if:

  • Your child has hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any other ingredient in the product.

b. Take special care with Children’s Panadol (5-12 years):

Medical advice should be sought before giving Children’s Panadol (5-12 years) to your child if:

  • Your child has been diagnosed with liver or kidney problem (because Paracetamol is metabolised in the liver and excreted by the kidney in urine).
  • Your child has hereditary problems of fructose intolerance must not take Children’s Panadol (5-12 years) as this product contains Sorbitol liquid.

Check with your child’s doctor if:

  • Your child is in a glutathione depleted state such as those who are severely malnourished, anorexic, have a low body mass index, or have sepsis or your child has a severe infection as the use of Paracetamol may increase the risk of metabolic acidosis.

Signs of metabolic acidosis include:

  • Deep, rapid, difficult breathing
  • Feeling sick (nausea), being sick (vomiting)
  • Loss of appetite

Contact your child’s doctor immediately if your child gets a combination of these symptoms.

  • Caution is advised if paracetamol is administered concomitantly with flucloxacillin due to increased risk of high anion gap metabolic acidosis (HAGMA), particularly in patients with severe renal impairment, sepsis, malnutrition, and other sources of glutathione deficiency (e.g. chronic alcoholism), as well as those using maximum daily doses of paracetamol. Close monitoring, including measurement of urinary 5-oxoproline, is recommended.
  • Please see your child’s doctor if symptoms do not improve, get worsen or new symptoms occur because these could be signs of a serious condition.
  • Paracetamol overdose may cause liver failure which may require liver transplant or lead to death.
  • Contains benzoic acid. This may increase jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) in babies
  • Contains 140 mg/ml sorbitol. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine.
  • Keep this and all medication out of sight and reach of children.
  • Do not exceed the stated dose.
  • This Product contains Paracetamol. Do not use with other Paracetamol-containing products.

c. Taking other medications

The liver toxic effects of Paracetamol may be increased by the use of alcohol.

The anticoagulant effect of warfarin and other coumarins may be enhanced by prolonged regular daily use of paracetamol with increased risk of bleeding; occasional doses have no significant effect.

Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:

  • flucloxacillin (antibiotic), due to a serious risk of blood and fluid abnormality (high anion gap metabolic acidosis) that must have urgent treatment, and which may occur particularly in case of severe renal impairment, sepsis (when bacteria and their toxins circulate in the blood leading to organ damage), malnutrition, chronic alcoholism, and if the maximum daily doses of paracetamol are used.

Possible Adverse Events:

Stop this product and consult your child’s doctor immediately if:

  • You notice allergic reactions such as skin rash or itching, sometimes with breathing problems or swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face.
  • Your child experienced angioedema or Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic epidermal necrolysis.
